Margdarshak

rotarymargdarshakThe Rotary Margdarshak Movement has been launched in Pune as a joint initiative through the Rotary Clubs, and has had a spontaneous and overwhelming response.

Initiated through the Rotary Club of Pune Central, the Rotary Margdarshak Movement lays out the simple concept that “I will follow traffic rules”. The movement was almost immediately taken up by the Rotary Clubs of Pune Main, Pune Riverside, Pimpri Town, Pimpri, Pune Mid-East, Pune Cantonment, Pune Mid-Town, and Pune Airport.

Till date, more than 500 Rotarians have registered over 750 vehicles. The Rotary Margdarshak Movement believes that by encouraging each individual to take responsibility for their own personal behaviour on the roads, we can get the optimum benefit of our undoubtedly inadequate resources.

Following this train of thought, the movement has listed 5 primary traffic rules:

  • respecting traffic signals
  • wearing seat belts
  • not using the cell phone while driving
  • using indicator before turning or changing lanes
  • using horn only when necessary.

Margdarshak’s fundamental belief is that people who work in world-class environments and follow global standards at work can leverage their professional workplace values and bring awareness across all levels of society. Margdarshak believes that bringing the concept of systems, processes and quality into the personal and civil life of all citizens will make our country a better place.

Margdarshak will work with corporate organizations to train and certify employees to enable them to carry Quality outside their workplace, into their homes and into society in general.

Based in Pune, where one of the major civic nuisances is the lack of traffic discipline and low awareness of the need for streamlined traffic, Margdarshak’s first priority is to inspire citizens of India’s emerging cities with these values to bring about order and regulated traffic on the roads. Margdarshak and National Society of Clean Cities are also working together to build a citizen’s pressure group for political parties asking them for clean and effective candidates for all future elections.
