Mary Kom’s come back to the ring

This was a Olympic Gold Quest fund raiser in Pune in Feb 2014 with M C Mary Kom and Sushil Kumar. An evening with legends like Prakash Padukone, Geet Sethi and Viren Rasquina to look back at the days before 2012 Olympic and the success of OGQ team at London games was quite nostalgic. After a series of activities and energetic fund raising activities with the builders community of Pune, got a chance to have a private conversation with the sensational Mary and she confessed how she is finding it difficult to come back to the boxing ring. She still looked quite focused on the Olympic Gold at Rio in 2016. The spark in her eyes was the clear reflection of her dedication and ambition. The moment we started talking about the London preparatory camp in Balewadi in May – June 2012 she started getting excited and motivated to go back. This champion lady clearly expressed how her commercial obligations are coming in her way to start preparing once again in the ring. When I asked her if she was really serious about Gold at Rio 2016, she was not amused and almost punched me in my face! I was very happy to see her resolve and commitment towards this ultimate medal she is really keen to win.

Her selection for Asian Games at Incheon is a clear reflection that she is getting back on track. Despite of her being busy with the release of her biopic recently she has been working hard with her preparations in Patiala camp. She has gone to Incheon with only Gold in her mind. We sincerely wish her very best and whatever little I know of her, she is capable of doing this quite well. I will be watching you Mary and you have all our best wishes and prayers with you.
