PV Sindhu came to the court with her claim to the Gold but World No 1 didn’t finally allowed her the glory. However, she turned out to be deserving Silver medal winner in the end. All of us are so proud and ecstatic that no one complained of her losing the final. Till the middle of the third game she was at par with Caroline and looks like the pressure of the stage finally played on her mind. As her mental coach Vaibhav Agashe put it that as and when she is under pressure her movements slow down and she hesitate in choosing the right shots to play. Whereas, Caroline is someone who is always psyching herself to win and she did that beautifully yesterday. It was just that little difference between them yesterday otherwise they both played their best Badminton.
Sindhu is young and she will have opportunity to play at least up to 2024 in Paris. She will have two more chances to go for Gold in her event. Let us recall that the success of Saina Nehwal in London 2012 brought Sindhu on the Olympic stage and Sindhu’s success will have many more like them in Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. This will make this journey easy for likes of Sindhu and Saina, though I am not sure if Saina will play anymore Olympics or not.
Wrestlers had a forgettable day yesterday and same goes with our track and field athletes. The only hope left is Yogeshwar and if he is fit for his bout on 21st Aug then he has a very good chance to go for a medal.
Once again another fascinating show at the end of the day was Usain Bolt in 4X100 MT race. To me he is one of the most entertaining athlete in Olympics. His skill, temperament and humility is so inspiring to everyone in the world. 3 Gold each in three consecutive Olympics speaks of his complete domination in his events for a generation. The good news was that Japanese got silver and it is a clear indication they are eyeing Gold in Tokyo 2020 in the absence of Bolt.
