RIO 2016 – Day 9

Day 8For me two highlights of RIO 2016 were, our sprinter Lalita Babar reaching the finals of 3000MT Steeplechase and Joseph Schooling winning a swimming Gold leaving Michael Phelps behind for Silver. Shooters once again were not able to maintain their early leads and couldn’t manage any place in the finals of their events.

Sania and Rohan couldn’t keep Venus Williams away from her medal hunt and lost their crucial SF. Women’s hockey couldn’t perform better than expectations and similarly, badminton pair was disappointing once again.

The story of Joseph from Singapore is quite inspiring. He started swimming to be a champion like Phelps and won first Gold medal for his country beating his idol. Olympics are all about such stories and sports.

Indian shooting had started this rhythm of medal winning in Olympics and it will be really sad if we go without any medal in RIO. Gagan and Chain Singh will have a final chance to mend that today in 50 MT 3P. Saina, Sidhu and Srikanth will play their next round of group matches of Badminton and hopefully stay on course. Manoj will box for his berth in QF and if he does well he will also be one step away from his maiden medal.

Hopefully Sania and Rohan will be better than their Czech opponent to win India’s first medal – a bronze. Deepa will also be playing for India’s first medal in Gymnastic and all of us shall be praying for her.

Indian hockey will also launch their next round campaign for bringing back glory for Indian hockey in Olympics. Finally, its not all that bad, we still have many chances for grab and match our London 2012 medal score.
