RIO 2016 – Day 2

Day 1After so much of excitement, Day 1 events were disheartening for any India fan. I expected shooters to be in the medals but I guess lack of experience and pressure of performance did in. Jitu was clearly looking under pressure in the finals whereas his past record show that he has always performed better in the finals. He has another chance to redeem in 50 Mt range on 10th.

The most disappointing performance was from our men’s tennis pair. They probably couldn’t put behind their personal rivalry aside for the country. This is what happens when you play a sport only for money and personal ego. I am sure Leander didn’t want his last Olympic appearance to be so damp and disappointing.

My honours of the day go to Dattu Bhokanal, the army boat man. If he improves his pace (currently 30 strokes minute – need not less than 32-33) a bit he has a good chance to move to semis on 9th. Hockey team performed as per expectation but I feel they were playing only 40% of the hockey they are capable of. To finish on the podium they need to be not less than 75% in the round robin.

Today, Heena has a chance to go all the way. I watched her in London and she has been in good form during the last 12 months. The star attraction today will be Deepa in Gymnastics – first Indian to be on the floor. She is full of energy and passion – I want her to give her best. Indian hockey girls should go past Japan with ease – if they play their natural game.

Finally, I am surprised why Start TV is not showing all Indian events, after promoting their network so much in India.
